Communities Connecting for Children, a Canadian Registered Charity, is the proud owner and protector of 70 Acres of prime natural habitat and forest at 1674 Gill Road in Midhurst, Ontario - (Matheson Creek Camp). Bounded by Simcoe County Forest on our South and East, there is much beautiful forest and habitat to be appreciated and explored, and our trails are well-blazed and beautifully tended, with bridges where needed and an occasional bench for resting.
We have developed the property into a cultural heritage campsite celebrating Canada’s earliest inhabitants and first settlers. The sites are situated on a loop road called Heritage Way, with artesian well water available. Porta-potties are used for sanitation, but future plans include upgrading these facilities.
All sites have sheds with cooking equipment, Coleman stoves, cooking utensils, bowls and basins. All are cleaned and disinfected. There are water containers for bringing pure and tested drinking water to the sites, and brooms, rakes and shovels
The six themed sites include Kanata, with five large teepees and cots for eight in each. The next site along Heritage Way is the Georgian Site, our Military Site. The Prospector Site is the next site over and has five cabins, replicating a small Yukon town. The next site is built to make the best use of the sunshine, the Adirondack Site, it replicates the shanties of trappers in Canada’s wilderness The next site is Pioneer Site, which is five covered wagons. The last site along the trail being the Wendake Site, built in 2006, has three longhouses of British Columbia red cedar
